GreenHost Gamification in Progress: Turning Sustainability into Daily Action
From policies to practice: GreenHost is developing gamified sustainability tasks that fit seamlessly into daily hotel routines.
What if sustainability wasn’t another policy to communicate — but a series of simple, motivating actions embedded in everyday hotel routines?
This is exactly what the GreenHost project is currently working on. We are in the middle of developing a gamified sustainability system for hotels, built around missions, challenges and short tasks that can be easily integrated into daily operations across all departments.
The goal is clear: make sustainability tangible, practical and motivating — without adding complexity or workload. Each task is designed to take only a moment, yet together they create measurable environmental impact and foster lasting behavioural change.
A small sneak peek into what is currently being developed includes tasks such as identifying blocked radiators that cause unnecessary energy loss, giving one-sided paper a second life as everyday notepads, spotting quick energy-saving opportunities during daily routines, or introducing small habits that reduce waste without extra effort.
Rather than relying on policies alone, the GreenHost gamification approach focuses on learning by doing. Sustainability becomes something staff actively engage with — step by step, task by task, and as part of normal hotel life.
???? Sustainability doesn’t have to be complicated.
It just has to be done — one task at a time.
The development process is ongoing, and more insights into the missions, challenges and tasks will follow soon. Stay tuned as GreenHost continues to turn sustainability into action.
